This browser can't vibrate (iPhones can't), so a slice gives a small screen shake instead.
How to play
- Slice. Drag the knife all the way across a block. The cut follows your drag, straight or at an angle. Thin slices tip over and land with the cut face up; bigger pieces slide away so you can see the face.
- Try every tool. The wavy knife makes crinkle cuts, the wire slices the top off, the spoon and melon baller dig in, cookie cutters press out shapes, the roller squashes the layers thinner and the rake combs grooves.
- Crush and re-press. Squeeze a block into crumbs, rake the crumbs into a pile, then stamp the pile into a brand-new block made of whatever colors were in it.
- Pick your sand. Wet sand cuts glassy-smooth, dry sand crunches and sheds grains, cloud sand whispers and sags at the edges. Each of the 55 blocks says which it is.
- Modes. Perfect slice draws a guide for thin, even slices and tells you gently how even they came out. Slow mode makes the knife trail your finger and everything settle slowly. Build a block by pouring your own layers, or compare two blocks side by side.
Real play sand is not food: keep it away from mouths, especially little ones.
Keyboard: arrow keys move the tool, hold Space to press or drag, S slices for you, 1 to - pick tools, N brings a surprise block.

What you are slicing
Moldable play sand holds its shape when you pack it, then gives way under a knife with a soft, crunchy hiss. Pack colored layers into a mold, turn it out, and every slice shows the layers on a smooth cut face. Here every block is drawn from what is inside it, so a slice at any angle shows exactly the layers, swirls or hidden center at that spot.
Each slice you make can go into your gallery as a photo of its cut face. Today's block is the same for everyone and keeps a streak, and small achievements mark firsts like finding a hidden gem.
Common questions
- Is Sand Slice free?
- Yes. It runs in your browser with no download and no sign-up. Ads pay for keeping the site online.
- How do I cut a slice?
- Drag across the block with the knife. The cut follows your drag at any angle. A thin slice tips over and lands with its cut face up; a thick piece slides away so you can see the face.
- What is the difference between wet, dry and cloud sand?
- Wet sand cuts glassy-smooth and breaks into soft clumps. Dry sand crunches louder and sheds crumbs along each cut. Cloud sand is airy: it cuts with a whisper, rounds off at the edges and falls slowly.
- Does it work on an iPhone?
- Yes, in Safari and other iPhone browsers. iPhones cannot vibrate from a web page, so a slice gives a small screen shake instead. If there is no sound, check the silent switch.
- Is anything I make saved or sent anywhere?
- Your settings, gallery, streak and achievements are saved only in this browser. Nothing is sent to a server; a share link carries only the block's colors and shape.
